WELCOME TO OUR CABIN ON PLEASANT LAKE, CASCO, MAINE
|
 |
| |
Fall, 2004...this is the area just below the lake heading towards Parker Pond
|
Golf and Tennis:
Point Sebago Golf Course is 10 minutes away; it is rated one of the best in southern Maine. Sunday River Golf is 1 hour away and they have built a spectacular mountain course designed by Robert Trent Jones. Some take a drive to Sugarloaf or Belgrade Lakes for spectacular golf. Maine has some great golf now with these three courses in the Golf Digest Top 100 courses you can play in the US..
The town of Casco has tennis courts, a basketball court, and a beach/swim area. The town is 1/2 mile from the cabin. It has a general store and a great ice cream/sandwich shop open until 10 PM.
|
Swimming and Boating:
The entry into the lake is gradual; it is approximately 2 feet deep at the shore, 4 feet deep at the dock. The lake is a sandy bottom. Along with a small sailboat, we have two kayaks plus life jackets. We allow people to bring their boat to the cabin; no boats over 18 feet, please. Jet skis are not permitted. Water skiing is fine. Boat rentals can be arranged through Long Lake Marina in Naples or Kettle Cove Marina in Raymond.
Horseback Riding:
Casco has it's own stable, The Carousel Horse Farm. Private and group rides can be arranged. Rides are along wonderful trails through the woods and fields in the area.
Shopping/Groceries:
Tony's Market is in Naples, 10 minutes away, and is a full service market. Hannefords in Windham or Bridgeton are larger markets and are about 20 minutes away. Freeport (LL Beans and many other shops) is less than an hour away. Portland is 45 minutes away. The Casco general store is 1/2 mile away where you can pick up newspapers, groceries, and movie rentals.
Gym
A half a mile away is a gym with exercise equipment. Renters can use the gym for a daily fee.
|
Restaurants:
Naples is 10 minutes away and Bray's Pub is great; it often has live music on the weekends. Rick's Cafe sits at the edge of Long Lake also has bands/entertainment and dining. The Causeway Landing has outdoor seating on Long Lake.
Chutes, in Casco, has a great breakfast and bakery. In Waterford, about 15-20 minutes away, the Lake House is a gourmet experience and a "homey", old New England Inn. Of course, there are pizza parlors, Thai restraurants, and outdoor ice cream/eating at the Gazebo in Bridgton 20 minutes away. And don't miss Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield (50 min. away) which has dinner and famous folk/alternative music/comedy performances.
|
Fishing:
Needless to say, Maine and fishing go together. Pleasant Lake is stocked with deep water salman. People catch Small and large mouth bass. Some people use trolling to get deep enough to catch salmon - they are 25-50 feet deep. The lake is around 55 feet at its deepest.
|
Rainy Days:
Go outlet shopping in North Conway, NH or Freeport, ME (LL Bean, etc.). Both are approximately 1 hour away. Portland is 45 minutes away. Movies theaters are about 20 minutes away. But sometimes, just curling up by the fire on a rainy day, reading, watching a movie (we have TV & DVD player), playing games is just the best.
